The god of death was central in the ancient cultures of what is now central and south America. Although blood sacrifices to Mictlantecuhtli were common, his wife, Mictecacihuatl, took what she desired. Ruling the underworld, she satiates her thirst by draining the souls she deems unworthy to spend eternity in her domain.

Before written history, when man still hid from the dark, when we were still prey, what gods did we worship? Which ones did we pray to in times of need? Which ones did we pray for deliverance from? Which ones did we fear? Which ones did we hide from when the night fell?Although this is not the first of the old gods, he is the one that man truly feared first.
